Can I register my child any time during the year?
Yes. We accept dancers any time throughout the year as long as there is room in the class. We do have performances throughout the year that have requirements on registration dates. We do our best to include new dancers in the performances if possible, but costume restrictions may prevent that at times.
Can my child get pre-professional training?
Can my child get pre-professional training?
Yes! Our teachers are all professionally trained through dancing professionally &/or getting a college degree in dance.
What is the training of your Teachers?
What is the training of your Teachers?
Our teachers all have professional training. They have all either danced professionally, are currently dancing professionally, have a college degree in dance or have been through our teacher mentoring program. The higher the level of class the more experienced the teacher. For Modern, we teach Martha Graham technique. Martha Graham created this style and our teachers have been trained personally by teachers who trained and performed directly with Martha Graham.
What is your Teacher Mentoring Program?
What is your Teacher Mentoring Program?
Veteran Teachers take on mentoring dancers who have trained at our studio and are in their last years of high school. They work together to learn how classes are structured, what combinations break down dance technique into fun yet teachable movements and how to properly interact with different age levels and abilities. The students become Assistant Teachers and help teach a class with their Veteran Mentor giving them feedback and helping them hone their teaching skills. When Assistant Teachers have been thoroughly trained they can earn teaching their own class. This program gives valuable experience to our most senior dancers while giving our youngest dancers well trained energetic & youthful teachers they can look up to in their dcne journey with ADA.

What is the progression of your levels?
What is the progression of your levels?
Dancing Duos introduces dancers to the class structure while allowing them to bring their Adult with them to class. Preschool classes use fun games, props and imaginative images in short intervals to teach young minds how to function in the class setting while unknowingly learning dance terms and technique. Pre-Ballet begins to introduce the structure of a Ballet class with time spent at the barre and also uses short intervals they learned in Preschool Creative. At age 7 dancers' brains and attention spans can now handle the full Ballet class structure and they can enroll in Beginner level classes. Tap is the exception and can be started in Preschool with the combo class or age 5 in Beginner Level. The level progression from there is Beginner, Secondary, Elementary, Trainee, Apprentice, Principal. We also offer Teen & Adult classes.
How many performing opportunities will my child get?
How many performing opportunities will my child get?
There are two main performances each year unless you join the Integrity Ensemble. First, all classes (minus PBT, Pre-Pointe Prep & Intro to Modern) participate in the end of the year Recital in May. Dancers are not required to participate in the Recital but many find it an enjoyable experience. It has a separate fee and registration. Dances are learned in the last 10-15 minutes of their class. Dancers not performing can still learn the dance in class but will not be in the performance. Second is an opportunity for dancers age 5-12 to join the Integrity Ensemble in their Littlest Angel Production performed in December at the Schrott Center for the Performing Arts. This has a separate registration and fee. Dances are learned outside of class time in separately scheduled rehearsals.
What is Integrity Ensemble?
What is Integrity Ensemble?
Dance is a performance art. The Integrity Ensemble was created as an opportunity for our dancers to have multiple performances throughout the year. Dancers age 10 & up who are enrolled in Elementary level Ballet & Modern, and higher, can join Integrity for a yearly fee. They enroll in Choreography classes to learn the dances they will perform. Dancers perform at Penrod, Artsgarden, Littlest Angel at Schrott Performing Arts Center, a special dance in all Recitals and other community performances as scheduled through the year. Integrity also meets throughout the year for fun social get togethers to build friendships and trust in the group. Integrity dancers have been shown to improve their technique faster, build more self reliance and responsibility and be great academic students.

Do you go to competitions?
No. ADA believes dance is a Performance Art and not a competitive sport. We like to have a supportive and encouraging environment without competition. Every dancer has something unique to offer and should be valued. For this reason we offer performing opportunities throughout the year, but do not go to competitions. Joining the Integrity Ensemble increases dancers’ performing opportunities.

Can my child take any class at ADA?

Lyrical levels coordinate with the Ballet class level and dancers must be enrolled in one Ballet class a week to earn their Lyrical class eligibility, unless they take Recreational Lyrical. Modern dancers must be enrolled in two Ballet classes a week to earn their Modern class eligibility, unless they take Recreational Modern. Why do you require Ballet classes to take Modern, Lyrical & PBT?
Why do you require Ballet classes to take Modern, Lyrical & PBT?
ADA believes Ballet is the best technique to learn correct spinal placement, body control & coordination. It is the foundation for most dance styles. After learning the basics of body placement then dancers can learn to curve the spine, fall off of their placement and loosen the structured movements of ballet to perform the other techniques. Dancers must continue their Ballet classes to maintain their correct placement and muscles while learning these other styles.
What is Lyrical?
What is Lyrical?
A technique that combines Ballet & Jazz movements that explores emotions and how they make dancing bigger and fuller in order to tell a story through dance. This style combines going to the floor, partnering with other dancers, leaps, & turns. It requires strong Ballet technique and dancers are placed in levels according to their Ballet level. Dancers must be enrolled in one Elementary Ballet class or higher unless they enroll in Recreational class.
What is Modern?
What is Modern?
We teach Martha Graham Modern technique. Fundamental principles in Graham technique include contraction and release, opposition, shift of weight and spirals. Like a Ballet class, Graham technique has a specific order of exercises that begin on the floor, progresses to standing and then across the floor. Modern dancers must be enrolled in two Ballet classes a week, Elementary level or higher, to earn their Modern class eligibility unless they take Recreational Modern. Martha Graham created this style and our teachers have been trained personally by teachers who trained and performed directly with Martha Graham.
